ricky martinRicky Martin might have left Broadway, but the accolades keep coming: PETA has just announced that it’s honoring the out singer, a recent convert to vegetarianism, by sponsoring a rescued chicken on his behalf.

“Olivia was rescued by Florida’s Kindred Spirits Sanctuary, where she is now thriving,” reveals a statement from the group. “She spends her days taking dust baths, roosting in trees, and relaxing in the sun.”

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman praises Martin’s switch to a meat-free diet, a change he recently tweeted about, and says people who go vegetarian “boost their energy and cut their risk of heart disease, cancer, and obesity—and they help save animals like Olivia, too.”

The announcement was timed to the Great American Meatout, held every March 20 since 1985, in which participants are asked to go vegetarian for the day.

Oops, too late.
